Looking for reloaders who load specifically for there Model 10 with a 24" 5R Mil Spec 11:25 twist.
Im running 150smk with rl-15 with consistant/accurate results out to 1k, but Im always curious as to what other shooters have developed and found to be there sweet spot.

My 5r should be here next week. My first loads will be RL-15, 168 Amax, Lapua Brass, with CCI BR2 primers. I was planning to start at 40gr. and go from there. This will be my first time reloading and with a new rifle to boot. Its making me a little nervous? Hopefully I will have some success and will post back to let you know.

Will the 150gr out of a 24 in barrel make it to 1k stabilized?

I am waiting for my 12 vlp dbm 308win (stock), and for 1k target shooting I will use Thun-Ruag cases(same as Lapua), 43-45.5 gr N140(start slowly), 170gr Lock base,
other option will be with 180 gr Scenar(you can not miss with Berger VLD s, but they re expencive). With 170gr Lock base, should be general purpose cartrige from 100-1000m.
    We ll see...

yes..peace of cake..thats why I like it so much.
When I start,d load development after recieving my rifle,I started with heavier projectiles 168/175 SMK,s but I didnt get the results I was looking for so on a whim, I tried some simple 150gr FMJ-BT Hornady I had laying around and some RL-15. I hit pay dirt almost imediately. I then started using 150gr MHPBT SMK and am smiling from ear to ear. I have 2 seperate loads using this combination. One load is 43.0grs of RL-15 and the other 45.5grs of RL-15. Im zero,d at 100 with the 43.0 loads and when I send the other load (45.5) the POI is exactly 3" higher with no deviation on windage. I did this for 2 reasons. 1. less wear and tear on the barrel with light loads from 100 out to 800 and less recoil... 2: I dont have 20 MOA base on my Savage. When it is time for me to send them out to 1K, I simple load er up with the 45.5gr loads, back down my elevation turret 12clicks and it puts me exactly @ zero with the lighter loads. Ive used the hotter load from 100 out to 1K and hit every steel, but honestly, theres no reason for me to run the barrel that hot at shorter distances.
After my load development and ballistic calcualtions for drop on both loads, I was grining from ear to ear when I found out the calculations are correct.
Heres some interesting stuff I found out as well. Buddy of mine has a the same Savage but in a 1-10 twist and not a 1-11.25. he uses 168 SMK with RL-15 and when we start sending the rds out to 1K, Ive paid attention to adjustment on windwage, especially on 15-20mph winds and much to my suprise, he,s adj is only but 1-2 clicks less than mine. both scopes are 1/4 MOA. which tells me that --yes--my bullets are flying faster, but theres not that much more deviation on windage. Im sure if he was running 175 or 178,s there would be.
Im really very pleased to no end with my load. Just 3 weekends ago I was hitting a 8"x6" steel plate at 1K,but Im always interested on somebody elses mix

I am interested in your muzzle velocity. I have a 10 twist and out of a 22 inch barrel getting 2850 fps with the 155gr sierras. When I run that thru ballistics it goes sub sonic somewhere in the 800 range + or -

Kind of depends on the elevation where he is shooting too. The SHOOTER app is showing 1150fps at 900 and 1060fps (subsonic) at 1k based on 59 deg / 0' DA / 2850fps / 150 SMK. Upping to 2500' DA allows it to be 1121fps at 1k (barely supersonic). The Alliant guide shows 2900fps+ is possible with RL15, but at around 49gr. OP - what brass are you using?

My initial testing with the 150 FMJ in this rifle has shown good nodes at 43.5 and 44.0 gr of TAC right around 2880-2900 fps. I have been using CAVIM brass, which is about the same weight as LC/WCC/FC (~175ish). I am not happy with this brass for this gun though and am going to switch to some WCC07 I have and also try RG4895 and RL15 loads. I did have some nice groups with 168 SMK / TAC at around 41.5gr. Not sure of MV though.

I'll try to post some more info when I get a chance to test the new loads. I'll try the range you mentioned with the 150 FMJs.

    Im at 4200-4400ft
the 43.0 loads are pushing 2750 on a 80deg day
the 45.5 are going 2880 on a 80deg day and easily @ 2900 on a 100deg day which happens alot here in southwest texas
to be honest. I never really considered even worrying about the rd going unstable once I got the patterns I did at 1000 (consistantly)

I ran it thru JBM ballistics a couple years ago at 1000 elevation. I am using Win brass with 46.5 gr Imr 4064 and a cci#34 primer. Gettimg the best group right at 2.810 coal. I am planning on some testing with a new 26" barrel. I have a 500 count box of the 155 palma's and 8lb of powder. Waiting on the weather to break. Gonna load some with IMR4895 and see how it does. Maybe some 748 if those don't work

    im using lc brass.std oal.cci200...no crimp...nothen fancy
heck if I tried 49gr worth of rl-15, something would give and in a bad manner.
when i started load development with my 5r 11;25 twist, i learned that there was infact a learning curve for me with that twist. Im used to running 168/175 and didnt think that the 150,s would be so freken accurate but much to my suprise....they are. FYI...the 150 hornady 150gr FMJ BT gave me suprising great results but I would get occsional flyers that of which really ranks on me. id get 4 shoots touching then the last would wonder off. i dont have that problem with the 150 SMK,s.
Ive tried tac on my gas gun but didnt bother trying once I landed the load i speak of on my bolt savage.
I have some tac and maybe give it a go with the heaviers...maybe even some varget
