    Savage axis recoil lug

Just wondering, Has anyone put a real recoil lug on an axis action and eliminated the one in the stock?

You have to machine about 3/8" off the face of the action to do it - basically the depth of the recess or notch in the bottom of the action for the factory lug, and then cut in the notch for the locating nub on the 110 lug.

The factory Axis lug is identical to the 110 lug other than the top half (the ring) has been cut off it, thus no modification will need to be made to the lug pocket in the stock. However, if you go to a thicker aftermarket lug you will need to open up the lug pocket to accept it as it's already pretty snug with the factory Axis lug.
