Put My 1st Rounds Down Range!

So... Hi. I'm new here. I picked up an 11 trophy hunter XP a few weeks ago and today I was finally able to get out and shoot it. I LOVE the firearm! But I do have a few issues with it. First...

^^^This. I hate this mag release! Is there any way I can change it to something a little more sturdy. That little tab makes me real nervous on these 30-35F days.

And the other issue I found is the trigger guard bolt release. It's just too awkward for me. Every other bolt action firearm I've used has the bolt release up where the older Savages did. That and I'd also like to go with this stock some day.

And they need a top side bolt release.

Other than that, I love the gun so far!

Why would I wanna do that? Sounds like that'd take all the fun out of it...

We all have our favorite equipment paradigms and prejudices (I've got mine, too). Something to consider is that although the OP may not like the mag release, so far on this forum, I have not yet read of someone who actually had a mag release lever break.

    I found it!

but they want $135 for it and they say it's all OEM part so why not just get the "base plate" peace straight from savage and cut the tab off my mag?

That looks like the plastic model, the parts for the stainless version should be just about that much.

You may like the steel, stainless steel versions better, they are a little more solid feeling.

Yes! Do you happen to have any part numbers? Savage's site isn't very helpful went it come to parts interchangeability. The only way I can find a parts breakdown is by serial number.

Well I went to the LGS and found a serial number off one with a stainless frame assembly (I guess they call it)

PN 107325 for the frame assembly and it goes for $86.00
    and
PN 105897 for a stainless (I think, not plastic anyway) trigger guard for $17.00

    Thanks.

I wonder if Savage makes the trigger guard with bolt release in stainless? My model 16 in 223 came withh the stainless triger guard but is blind mag and top bolt release.
