Why can I not find a serial # on my 19NRA

I have owned a 19NRA for a while. looking over it, i can not find a serial number on the reciever. nothing on the right side or at the end of the reciever, where many say is where should be located. there is a # on the buttplate in the 15k range, but not sure if it s the original stock.

Anywhere else to look? or did some of them not marked?

It wasn't required by federal law until 1968, after that every firearm manufactured or imported to the U.S. had to have a serial #.

you are correct. But according to all the places i have checked, Savage did put serial # on these 19NRA's. either on the reciever or the end of the reciever.

Only thing i can think of is that it might have been removed in the past

Serial # should be on the action between the bolt handle and the ejection port. If it's not then someone ground/polished it off - likely in the process of rebluing it.

Might be on the inside ring of the receiver as well, I've seen them there on older Savage rimfires.
