It wasn't required by federal law until 1968, after that every firearm manufactured or imported to the U.S. had to have a serial #.
I have owned a 19NRA for a while. looking over it, i can not find a serial number on the reciever. nothing on the right side or at the end of the reciever, where many say is where should be located. there is a # on the buttplate in the 15k range, but not sure if it s the original stock.
Anywhere else to look? or did some of them not marked?

Serial # should be on the action between the bolt handle and the ejection port. If it's not then someone ground/polished it off - likely in the process of rebluing it.

Might be on the inside ring of the receiver as well, I've seen them there on older Savage rimfires.
