    1 in 12 twist???

Will a 30" 1 in 12 twist stabilize bullets heavy enough for 600 yard F-class. Found them available for small shank savage in stock and wanted to make sure before ordering. Thanks.

Which bullets are you using ? The manufacturer should have a barrel twist rate recommendation based on the expected MV. You don't mention caliber, but I assume 308 ?

Sorry, yes...308 and was planning on 165 to 175 gr. But was wondering how heavy (or long) could go with a 12" twist...

Since VLD's need the fastest twist to stabilize because of the long pointy nose, if you look here http://www.bergerbullets.com/products/target-bullets/
They show 1:12 being fine up to the 175gr weight (they have a G1 BC of over 0.50, so great for long range). But if you look at the 210's to 230's you need a 1:10 twist rate which for many years was the default twist rate for a 308. You would need to run the wind drift numbers on the 210's to see how much better they are than a 168 or 185. At long range, wind is the killer.

A 1-12 twist will be fine for 150gr to 180gr .30 cal match bullets.

I concur I have a 12 twist, and it has stabilized everything I have shot out of it up to 180s anyway.
