    Amazing Savages!!

My Savages never cease to amaze me! I just shot for my second time at the Ridgway PA Varmint Bench rest competition. It’s a steel silhouette match at 850,900,950, and 1000 yards. If you live anywhere near the area and want to try some long range fun it doesn’t get much better. You can find out more at ridgwayrifleclub.com.
But back to the Savages so last year I took a factory model 16 in 7 WSM put a Nikon 8-32 scope on it and swapped the trigger to a Rifle Basix SAV-2 and went up to give it a try. And yes it still had the plastic Tupperware stock on it. I’ve shot a couple seasons of short range bench so I was not completely new the sport of bench rest and I had a Caldwell bench rest front rest and rear bag. I was going to be happy with any hits and I got 4, 2 at 950 and 2 at 1000.
So this year the wife insisted that she wanted to shoot too. While time ran out and the components for her rife have still not show up yet, she shot my short range rifle model 12 BVSS in 223. Yes a 223! and she got 5 hits her first try 1 @ 900, 2 @ 950 and 2 @ 1000. Even though I got 14 this year she says she still won because I only got 4 my first try. And when I say hit that means you have to knock the steel over. I couldn’t believe the little 223 had enough left at a 1000 to knock the steel coyote over.
Now the 12 BVSS has a SAV-2 trigger and I put a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock on my 16 but that’s it! Some the shooters there have more in a scope then I have in both rifles and scopes. All I can say is I’m darn proud to be a Savage shooter!!

OP, your right! I would not have thought the .223 Remington would have had enough energy to knock steel over either. Your wife is one hell of a shot.
