I'll take possession of a used 11 tomorrow. I need some help identifying the trigger. The rifle has a "G" letter prefix to the serial number but has a flat rear receiver top and definitely no accutrigger. The trigger pull is probably over 5 lbs and entirely unsuitable. How do I tell what trigger's in it?

It is probably the standard run of the mill savage pre acutrigger trigger with a wire spring. If your lucky it is a three screw. Don't you fret. We got solutions round here. Send me an SASE (pm me for my address) and I will send you the last of my .040 wire and we can get you all tuned up...even if you need to spend a hunert on an aftermarket trigger, you will get the pull you like sooner or lter.

standard stuff pre accutrigger. Cleaning,adjustment and trigger lube would go a long way. Do you have a dremel with a rouge wheel?
Tough crowd on the "wrong side bolt handle" comments. Back to the question a friend picked up one of these and after cleaning and polishing (that is what stangfish is asking about) it turned into a nice (for an old Savage trigger) @ 2.5 to 3 lb trigger. And I think he changed the spring too now that I think of it. That .040 wire will go a long way to helping smooth it out.

I do have a Drexel with a rouge wheel. 2.5 lbs is what I'm looking for.
ONE sase sent to me will get you my last piece of .040 wire. the only requirment is that you can gaurantee me you keep the spring load on the seer high enough to keep it safe. Modified triggers are dangerous and need to be handled with extra caution when there is a round in the chamber.

right or wrong I ordered a Rifle Basix trigger with the new barrel today. Do I still need the wire?
The new barrel is bright stainless so this thing will be a Frankenrifle ir I don't do something cosmetically. Anyone used a good Cerakoter? Does it ship assembled or separate?
Still haven't decided on the stock. Thinking about a Boyd's featherweight varmint.

It looks much better now. I won't bore you with pics. Most of the crud and thankfully most of the rust is gone after a lite rubdown with gunzilla. The bore cleaned right up. A little powder but mostly just dust.
The new barrel, accessories and trigger will be here on Monday. The stock's on order but won't be here for a while.
My tuned 2-screw is breaking at 2.5-3 lbs with almost no creep or overtravel. Has an 0.040 wire.
You will need to break out the stone, so only do it if you feel comfortable working with triggers.
The Sav-1 trigger is installed. I read about .015" sear engagement and tried to set it by eye about there. Does this look right?
The trigger doesn't feel too bad. 5 shot average was 2lbs 6 ounces, I was aiming for 2 1/2 lbs since my other rifles are there. It doesn't fire in the two safe positions or when dropped three times on a rug covered basement floor.
I'm a little worried about wear from having too little engagement.
