    coyote bullet help....

I am currently using hornady 55sp out of my stevens 223 with good results on paper and on a few coyote's...I can't seem to find any more 55sp's around locally but have lots of hornady 55 vmax. My question, are the 55 vmax just as good for nothern coyote's....I am relatively new to the coyote sport looking for some advice...one of my friends says the 55 vmax don't penetrate well, your advice is welcome..thanks frank

    Re: coyote bullet

I think that the VMax bullets are much more explosive on contact. My experience with them on smaller lighter dogs is that at closer range they exit and leave a large exit hole. At longer distances (>200 yards) most of them don't exit but the internal damage is impressive.

As an option, over at Midsouth you can pick up 50/55gr sp in the Varmint Nightmare brand for Cheap. They shoot well. I think they are re-badged Nosler bullets. 2000 for like $150 or so.

Are they Noslers? and I guess are they all Noslers? They have the Varm and Varm extreme or something like that. I have always wondered whose bullets they were buying in bulk and repackaging

Do you just want to zap em or do you collect hides?

50-55gr vmax are super on coyotes, never had a hide issue with them.
I also use Midwayusa Dogtowns in 50/55 gr both the SP & HPs, they are as great a bullet as any. They go 1/2" - 5/8" in my guns & put down cototes on the spot.
The same goes for the bulk Hornady 55 SP w/can. groove, accurate and deadly on the dogs.
