If I'm reading this right, the .22-250 bolt is compatible with the .308-based calibers?

Looks like the boltface on the .223 is a little smaller, but the only thing I need to replace to change calibers on my .22-250 is a properly headspaced barrel chambered for .243, .260, 7mm-08 or .308, since they're all on the same case. Is that correct? Is the detachable box the same too?

What's the common ancestry between the .22-250 and the .308 that permits this? The .22-250 is somewhat smaller than the .308-based cases.

I was wrong in my first post (was thinking 220 Swift). The 22-250 uses a .472 bolt head, where the 308 family use a .473
some of the more experienced fellas may no more.

Mag will be the same for all 5 calibers listed

The bolt head is the same for the 22-250 and the 308 based cases. The magazines/followers are different though. You should be able to make the mag work though with a little tweeking.

The 22-250 is based on the 250 Savage, which is based on a shortened and modified 30-06.
