    20 MOA base question

Looking for a one piece, affordable base for my SA, model 11. I would like to eventually turn this hunting rifle into a long range in 243 and wondering if a 20 MOA base will be odd to hunt with? Would the typical 1" scope have enough travel for a 200yd zero?

Why I am asking is my current scope needs to come a little rearward for quick scope acquisition, and the current standard rings and 2 piece bases hit the back side of the front bell of the scope, keeping it from coming back far enough to suit me.

I am thinking also of rings that extend back a little also. The MOA base would be a good thing for later on.

Depends on your total MOA available in your scope and how far you want to shoot.
From my understanding, generally a 20MOA base is indicated past 600yds (less if shooting flat calibers).
I shoot a 20MOA on my Rem 700 .308 hunting/LR rifle, but that scope also has 75 MOA of travel.

Here is some good info on scope selection:

OK I solved my problem without spending any $$. That's the best way. I went to my shop and scrounged around until I came up wit a 4" base, that had holes that lined up with the front of my receiver. I cut the excess off, and scrounged some more for shorter mounting screws, cause this base had the holes deeper, and mounted the new piece on. It look like a cantilever mount from the front of the receiver. it moves the scope ring back about 1" from previous location, but does not interfere with loading or unloading the rifle, I checked this.

I took a picture with my cell phone and emailed it to myself, but after 10 minutes it still has not shown up. I will post it when it does.

Now I just need to raise my cheek rest a bit, like I did on my '06 and I will be good to go. I sure wish the monte carlo stocks were still around, they fit me much better.

See if this will work. It has removeable padding to get an exact fit.
I use one on my Rem 700 and really like it.
