I would think you would make it a slight bit "slintery' or whiskery feeling by doing this. Strip it and rub it with oil instead of poly should do the trick.
Does anybody glass bead a laminated stock? I figure it would be an easy way to get a subdued finish and make it less slippery. I have a laminated stock on order and I'm considering doing this.

Not a good deal from my tests on this. Problem with a laminated stock the woods used are not the same hardness. kslefty is right about the "whiskery" feel when doing this, also the softer woods will leave valleys or rivers where they run through the stock. The glass bead also beds itself into the wood. I have not tried other media such as plastic or walnut. One of those might give you the texture you are looking for, don't know.
