Built myself another rifle w/ a NIB 12LRPV Repeater

    Built myself another custom Savage.

    - Rifle - NIB Savage 12 LRPV (Long Range Precision Varminter), caliber - 22-250 (not available in .308), 26" SS Bull barrel w/ HS Precision varmint stock. This is the same stainless steel solid top action w/ small ejection port for extra rigidity that Savage uses for their F-Class 1000 yards competition series rifles w/ 30" bull barrels, 6oz-2.5# AccuTrigger, but this one has DBM system repeater instead of single shot.

    Rifle components:
    - McGowen Precision Barrels LLC, matched hand lapped bull barrel, bare white chrome-moly steel, 26" straight contour, 1.120" @ breech to 1.120" @ muzzle w/ 11-degree crown, .308Winchester caliber, 1/10 twist.
    - SSS Tactical SS tear drop bolt handle.
    - KenFarrel Picatinny 20MOA base for Target Precision action (no port cut-out).
    - Falcon Menace 4.5x18x56 Tactical 30mm tube scope w/ enhanced mil-dot reticle .
    - Burris Xtreme Tactical 30mm rings.
    - 1/4" Savage Competition recoil lug.
    - McMillan A5 Stock from a previous Savage 10FCP build.

    - All work done by Ar15KittyKat
    . Blued barrel w/ Birchwood cold Super-Blue.
. Rebarreled to McGowen barrel w/ match headspacing.
. Roughened up previous JBweld bedding on A5 and re-opened recoil lug hole for new bedding job.
. Bedded scope base, action, and recoil lug w/ JB-weld.
. Opened up McMillan's barrel channel w/ plenty of room to free-float a 1.120" bull.
. Custom full length action screws.
. Used 1000grit sand paper to polish inside the action a tad bit for a more buttery bolt-work, and bolt work is really buttery & smooth.
    . Trigger set @ approx. #1.5
. All screws locked down w/ blue lock tite.

Shooting range: BassPro indoor 100yards shooting tube.

Took new rifle 12LRVP and old 10FCP (swapped to HSPrec. stock) to the range.
After about 30rds of shoot & clean break-in process, on the new rifle. I zeroed in w/ my Win. ballistic tip hunt ammo, then used Win. Match ammo to test its true accuracy. 10shots @ 100 yards.
All shooting done w/ front bi-pods, and rear sand bag.

    12LRVP's 10shots group after breakin.

My previous build 10FCP @ bottom, used to have the McM-A5, but swapped it for HSPrecision stock, all work done same as above rifle.

Unsolicited mentions of vendors w/ great customer service:

    - McGowen Precision Barrels - Machine work on the barrel is exceptional, barrel delivered less than 4 weeks, customer service & follow up emails are A+.

    - KenFarrel was ready to custom cut scope base to my specs for the same price of his existing bases, that's customer service, though I opt for his standard 20MOA.

Looks like a nice rifle. What's with the stuffed animals? Don't you have a shop or a guys room to hang out in? I doubt I would haul my prized rifle into my kids room for a photo op.

How much sanding did you have to do to get the safety warning off the left side?

Very good eyes, about 15mins w/ 1000grit, the warning was laser etched in... hated the big warning label ...

Great looking rifle! Pretty much identical to the one I want to build with Jim at Northlander. I've been debating over going with the LRPV repeater and selling off the parts I don't want or going with a regular action with DBM and not have to mess with parts I don't want but that target actions looks awesome!

I was looking at the 22-250 as a base as well, how well does the magazine work with the 308? Did you have to modify anything to make it work with the 308 cases?

How did the HS stock feel compared to your tactical? I have a B&C tactical now was thinking of trying to get the action and DMB to fit it or just sell the B&C off and stick with the HS for now. I hear that B&C is making a new stock next year to fit the newer centerfeed but wasn't sure if I wanted to wait that long.

Again, fantastic looking gunand good shooting on your part as well.

Thanks gents for the comps, I am mostly on SnipersHide & Ar15.com. but I thought you gents would enjoy some pics of the new LRPV action. I have to say, once I've tried a Target Precision action, there's no way I am going back to the standard open top action. Don't get me wrong, my standard 10FCP action shoots very well, just the LRPV action feels much more solid & smooth... All custom actions out there like Lawton, GAP, Borden, Stiller, Surgeons and many others have solid top for a reason...

The LRPV is short action, and if you get a 22-250, or 6mmBR caliber, the boltheads are the same as the .308, so all you need is a new .308 barrel, or you can choose any short action caliber w/ standard boltface. If you go to a caliber w/ different boltface size, then you have to buy an extra bolthead to fit the boltface. The DBM for the 22-250 is a tad bit different from the 308, but I tested it w/ my 2 existing .308 DBMs and I had no misfeed after 50rds...

The HSPrec. stock is very nice, but I like my McM A5 much better, I like the verticle grip and palm swell. My previous custom 10FCP in the pics was just sold to a hunting friend, and I also have a new take off SS barrel 26" bull 1" @ muzzle for sale on AR15.com Equipment exchange section.

What parts did you polish for this buttery smoothness?

The last post was over a year ago. You'll likely not get a response.
