    loading technique

I have a dumb question. Is it possible to load a single round like a Rem 700. With a Rem 700 you can drop a round into an open chamber, close the bolt and load that single round. Is that possible with a Savage or do you have to drop the round into an open chamber and then depress the round into the "magazine" before closing the bolt and loading the single round? Sorry for the dumb questions; however, I am still deciding on Rem vs. Savage and don't have first hand experience with the Savage.

Yes ... 99.9% of my rounds are chambered this way.

You can buy a single shot follower for around 12 bucks.

Not necessarily looking for the single shot follower, just the ability for a quick follow shot by dropping a round in the chamber and closing the bolt (without pressing the round down into the empty magazine).

It's been my experience tha short rounds like the 6mm BR may not reliably chamber without the use of the single shot follower. Especially in a long action.

Yep. The CRF Mauser claw type extractors are the ones that have problems w that. I have a CZ 527 that makes some wicked popping noises if you don't let it CRF! I only did it once though.

My 10FCP doesn't feed well by just dropping it in. Feeds perfect out of the mag with all types of bullets.
