    Flcp-k .223 to .22-250 conversion

    What would this take?

Can the barrel be re chambered to the 22 250 ? Will the bolt face and magazine be the same ? I really like my 308 flcpk and want a 22 250 also. Since the 12 flv would cost almost as much and i get no accu stock, no dbm, no brake I was thinking this may be a more cost effective route and get what I want.

From my readings around here, yes you can ream out the chamber for the .22-250; but you will need a new bolt face.

I believe the .22-250 uses the same .473 bolt face as the .308.

That said, I'm sure someone with more knowledge and experience will be along shortly to clarify all the necessary points.

    Good luck.

well from more research it looks like I am better off buying another flcp-k 308 and finding a 22-250 takeoff barrel. Then the bolt face and magazine all work and I will have a spare .308 barrel. Now 12" or 9" twist...I want the faster shorter range. I have the 308 to reach out long!!

The 223 can be re-chambered to 22-250. The bolt face will have to be changed to a .473" bolt face but this is inexpensive, and the magazine body and follower will need to be changed to a 22-250 magazine, the 308 mag may or may not feed properly, they are different. If you choose to sell your 223 and buy a 308 to convert, you can sell the barrel or trade if for a 22-250 barrel but the mag may still be an issue. The 22-250 with a 1 in 8" twist with 75 grn A-max's is an excellent long range cartridge, but for shorter ranges the 1 in 12" or 1 in 14" will give a little higher velocity and handle the light (40 grn to 55 grn) a little better. A 1 in 12" twist barrel would be easier to find, however you 223 barrel is probably already a 1 in 9" or 1 in 8". One thing to consider before starting the project, the 223 is just as good for shorter range work as the 22-250 if not better. The trajectory out to 300yrds is not going to be noticeably different in the field, and the barrel life of the 223 is much better. The 22-250 will also heat the barrel up much, much faster and require more cool down time. As a prarie dog hunter this is really important, because if you get that barrel too hot is wont last long at all. The 22-250 will get too hot to touch in very few rounds. Another option if you want flatter shooting round is the 204 Ruger or one of the 20 caliber 223 wildcats, they are as flat shooting as the 22-250 but much more efficient.

    Re: Flcp-k .223 to .22-250 conversion

Ok that covered a bunch that I have been thinking about. I already have the flcpk on 308, I was just wanting a .22 Cal gun for shorter ranges and a bit cheaper to shoot. I may just get a .223 flcpk and shoot it and not worry about conversions. Since the flcpk has the dbm, fluted barrel, brake, accustock already. Hmm back to saving up again!! Hopefully by the time I get it things will have calmed back down and I will be able to get some .223 brass.

You could get the .223 and AI it later. A little more range and brass life and still be able to shoot factory ammo.

I have a model 12 in 204 ruger and it is deadly on the small varmints. Very flat shooting. Mine doesn't stabilize anything heavier than 45 grain bullets. I get the best accuracy with the 34 grain bullets. I make my own 224 cal bullets using the corbin die set and fired 22 rimfire cases. They work great out of my Stevens 200 in 223 and in my 110 rebarreled to 22-250. I set the weight on the finished bullets to 57.5 grains, that seems to be where I get the best accuracy in the 200. I haven't tried any other bullet weights in the 22-250, it seems to love them as well. I can attest to the need to space the shots in the 22-250 for cool down. It gets hot really quickly.
