I know the .308 is/was the king of the hill for a long time, But times are changing with twist options and more projectiles than ever before. There maybe cartridges I missed,so lets hear them. But keep it short and sweet and no pipe dreams just your tried and true favorite no B.S.

I have a 22 Dasher that is VERY accurate also a 6x47 Lapua that's its equal at longer ranges.
Right now I am working with both a 6mm BR Norma and a 22 BR.
I would add the 22 BR to the list. :)
I would add the 6MMAI to the list.
Maybe the straight .284 should be on the list. It's gaining popularity.Originally Posted by Pa Hog

Didn't see a 6CM on the list. :)
I hate to cling to the old, but you still will not beat .308. When you try to think of anything negative to say about it all one can come up with is "but .30-06 shoots a little faster".
"If you don't have me on tape, then I didn't do it."<br />-Rumored to own a few, various firearms.
The .260 or the 7mm08 out preform the .308 with less recoil, but for avaliablity of factory match ammo the .308 has an advantage. I'd add the 22BR & 6CM because they are good rounds but have only ever heard of a handfull on the forums I frequent.
I'am leaning more to the BR rounds. 6 and 22BR. The 6 BR is a instant bug hole maker. The 22 BR is real easy to make and shoots just as good. Both have a very good selection of bullets available. Bug holes even while fireforming brass. JMHO.
Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.
.308 I hope ;D

How can you even have a poll like this and not include the 270 Winchester?
Man and man's best friend. Still looking at the green side of sod
I never saw a .270 in a precision rifle ever..this is'nt a hunting rifle poll. That would be considered "Other"
I second on the 6CM. Tops in my book.
6CM
hehe i guess its up to everyones idea of a 'precision' rifle. dont shoot BR, so im a 308 guy. can hunt groundhogs, whitetails, and everything else around here, can shoot steel and targets to 1k at mifflin, got tons of bras and components already here...i dunno, i like my 300wsm, my223, etc, but my 308s my fav. got ammo interchangability w my m1a, so it only gets better
308 rules!

I own 223, 22-250, 22-250AI, 6mm Rem, 6mm Rem AI, 6BR, 30BR, and 308W barrels for my Savages. I have multiple of several of these. I shoot point blank BR in club matches and up to 600 yds on a private range. Will start FClass this year. The 6BR and 30BR have edged out everything else in terms of easy to load for and flat out day-to-day accuracy. I have shot some great groups with all of these barrels then the next day or week the groups have really opened up with the same load. Plus the brass life of a 6BR or 30BR is just tremendous. I will be building more variants on the BR case. Probably a 6BRX will be next for me.

The most popular caliber in 2009 was the 6BR Norma.(At least for my sales.)

Dont even own the king of the hill (308) but I do like its sibling the 708. The 20PPC is the new sharpshooter in the bunch followed close by the 6BR. Past 600 yards the 6-284 and 308 Baer top the list.

Currently mine is a 6.5x55. If i were gonna build a new (strictly long range) gun, That wouldn't break the bank. It would probably be a 338 edge... If i were gonna break the bank , it would probably be something in 408 Cheytac . ;D

I voted for 308 but there are 5 others that I play with for precession shooting. Should have made for multiple choices.

See profile for fire arms
Do it today there maybe no tomorrow
I voted 6x47 Lapua but I'm currently building a 284 win on a 112 action. I'd say +1 on the 284
No 375 H&H?!?!
What do you consider a "Precision Rifle?"
You dont have 6ppc listed, and that is what most of my rifles are chambered in .
For a 600 yard BR I have had great luck with 6x47l and 6br.
