What I did on my summer vacation

After the shootings in Orlando, figured I'd better go ahead and build that AR15 that I been talking about for a few years. Bought a Spike's lower from a shop down the road. It's a Honey Badger! Check out the selector positions. Had to blur it a little.

Didn't really need another 223, my Savage will put a bunch of 77 grain SMKs through the same hole. Ordered a 300 BLK kit. The upper was supposed to be assembled, but I got a box of parts. Still discussing it with them. It got delivered Friday afternoon and I finished it today. The scope is a Primary Arms 4X with an ADI mount.

Probably just gonna shoot the light bullets in it and not mess with subs. Got a Savage barrel if I want to be really quiet.

They were just giving you a legitimate excuse to buy the proper tools to assemble your own upper. Still have two Spike's Crusader lowers here that I need to build into something. Already have a lightweight 16" carbine and an 18" SPR-style rifle so not sure what I'm going to do with them.

Yeah, it takes a few tools to assemble an upper. Got the Magpul BEV block, a YHM hand guard wrench, a RRA stock wrench and a Wheeler pivot pin install tool.

That pivot pin spring and detent got several quality flying lessons.

They acknowledged the issues with the upper and wanted me to return everything. But by then, I had most of the parts assemble to the lower. I'm asking them for store credit for the price difference.

125 SST's or Ballistic Tips and some W296 will give you around 2300 fps and a grin!

Just got back from the gun store with a jug of Lil Gun. A pound of powder will load about 400 rounds in this thing, so I might try 296 next weekend.

Lil Gun will work too. I think 296 just burns cleaner, good velocity.

Pivot pin tool? You don't need a tool for that, you just need to learn how to tilt your head and stick your tongue out just right while assembling.

That tool is very good for stuffing the spring and detent down into the hole. But I still had to use a knife blade to hold it there.

Which one do you have? The pins for the BEV block have rather long slots. Don't think they would help much with controlling the spring and detent.

I've got the Wheeler AR block, Tapco Armorers Tool, a set of punches and roll pin starters that pretty much takes care of anything I'll ever need to do on an AR. One thing I do want to get yet is the Wheeler AR Mag Well Block for my Tipton vise, but it's more for convenience than a necessity as I've gotten by fine without it up to this point.

This is pretty much my "collection" of gunsmithing tools at this point. The only tools not pictured are my Savage barrel nut wrench which is currently on loan to a friend, my bore light and small flashlight which I just forgot to include. All of it (except the vise of course) fits into a basic 16" plastic tool box with lift-out tray so I can grab it and go and have everything I might possibly need with me at the range.
