Does anyone have any experience with the after market manufacturers' sporter weight or heavy sporter weight barrels? Thinking of building a carry gun with as much accuracy potential as possible.

I have done many and I am sure Sharp Shooter has done 50x more than I have. With my experience they can shoot as good as a heavy barrel.
Thanks sinman
Yep. My McGowen is a 24" light varmint contour(.750@muzzle), and shot 1/2-3/4 moa out of the box during barrel break-in with a load I had for another barrel. No doubt I can keep it under 1/2 with a little tweaking.
That is probably a little thicker barrel than what you were thinking, but the complete gun was still 10lbs with scope, sling, and bullets so it wasnt bad at all to carry.

Got an after market .20 cal from Devin in heavy magnum sporter, about .675 at 24."
If I did it over, it would be shorter and smaller taper for reduced weight for field use, (should have taken Devin's advise). It shoots real good 20 times as fast as it can be loaded and aimed. It weighs about 10lb rigged, wish it were less.
Thanks for the responses, sounds like I should build it.
