only one way to find out, as long as the screw is out so it dose not do more damage as you try to remove the barrel the chances are slim for more damage.
i'm beginning to think of changing the barrel on my 7WSM model 16. i plan on putting a 26" shilen prefit in the same caliber (love it) and doing it myself. my only concern is that
when the leupold base was installed the mounting screw was too long and it flatened the barrel thread. although the damaged surface is not big, can it damage the action threads when i try to unscrew it?
thank's

Drop some oil or some lubricant of some sort in the mount screw hole, and work the barrel or they action back and forth don't try to take it off in one shot, and you will be fine
