I just ordered a Hog hunter in .308 and I would like to know if the trigger guard is made of plastic?

Yup, like the stock. I plan on installing bottom metal to accept AI mags. Added benefit will be metal trig. guard.

CDI...gonna go with the package cuz I like the stock as well. I believe CDI sells the BM directly from their website. AI mags aren't cheap, though they are very durable.

If you want to keep the factory stock, you can replace the plastic trigger guard with a metal one. Midway (midwayusa.com) has them for 18.99 $ and they are item # 119847. I had to use four 1/4 inch stainless steel washers for spacers, and they worked fine. Some owners cut the plastic ledge or bump from the original plastic one with a dremel tool, and use that for a spacer, but the washers were easier and you don't have to destroy the original trigger guard. Like everything else lately, the metal trigger guards are out of stock, but midway estimates a new shipment by Jan 29th, 2013.

There are a at least acouple of different sized trigger guards. If you get the correct size, you may not have to either shim or enlarge the current inletting. I am not at home right now, but on my list of things to do in the new year is to post some pictures and measurements of the different ones.

If his new Hog Hunter has the trigger guard bolt release would that be a problem? Seems to me it would.

Hog Hunter has the traditional bolt release on the action itself.

It is not plastic, it is lightweight composite!
Friends don't let friends use see through scope mounts. No offense.

Just weighed my stainless model 16 trigger guard, 2.00 ounces. So it won't break anyones back carrying it.

Rough finish, going to spend a couple of hours in front of the TV tonight polishing it.

I start with 200 grit, then 800, 1000 and finally 2000 grit. Even at that point the parts look beautiful, but I have a buffer to make it better.

You can get the sandpaper in a auto store.
