What kind of safety is on a Savage/Stevens?

I have Stevens 200 with a Timney trigger in 7mm-08. I know that it has a safety switch, but what exactly does it do? (ie, most pistols have various striker/firing pin blocks, etc v just a trigger block)

I'm going to take her hunting, and I'm just curious what exactly is keeping things from going off should I trip or otherwise smack the rifle around.

The safety is a trigger block. The sear and firing pin are unaffected by the safety. It's not the best.

Thanks. What do other manufacturers typically use for rifles? I just realized I never hear any talk of this mentioned, yet hunting rifles are probably the most likely firearms to actually get bumped around.

A lot of Mauser based sporters use a flag safety on the bolt shroud that locks the firing pin. It's the safest IMO. My CZ 452 rimfire has this type safety. The Win model 70 pre-64 has this type safety. The Rem 700 safety locks the sear, which is better than the trigger, but not as good as the firing pin. In reality though, it's about as good as locking the firing pin. The Rem 788 is a trigger block. The Ruger M77 is a trigger block type, but it's executed very well.
