    99 front sight R&R

    Hello,
I need to install a taller front site on my 99.
Tell me if I have this wrong or not.
All directions are with the muzzle pointing away from you, just like you are going to shoot the rifle.
To remove the old front site I need to drive it from the right to the left.
Then to install the new site.
Install it from the left to the right.
I will use a brass rod and hit it with a hammer, I will put some no mar painters tape on it, and the barrel around where the front site mounts, for opps protection.
    Any sugestions ?
    Thanks

I am not familiar with the specifics of the 99 front sight, but it sounds like you are on the right track the blade is dovetailed into the sight base I don't know if that is the correct direction or if it can slide out from either side.

I have a Williams front sight pusher tool for adjusting and removing Williams front sight blades. Do a search for it on MidwayUSA's site. I don't know if it would work on the 99, but if you think it might help, PM me.

Also, make sure you support the opposite side of the barrel and sight base with something (you could easily fabricate something out of wood) as you bang on it.

I'd say you have it just backwards. Drives out left to right. Drives in right to left. Be sure to remove the forearm before striking the barrel, and have the barrel backed up good and solid.

I think Mad Dog got lost in the Canadian woods or got eaten by a bear as I haven't seen him on in quite awhile.

+1 put your punch/drift (brass is ok but delrin sure is better!!!) on the left hand side and push toward the right hand side. Reverse on installation.

Nope, couldn't get back on the site for a long time, something about passwords or such but Mr. F got me all fixed up and back into action again today.

Eric has it bang on, the 99 sights (actually 99% of most dovetails) are removed from left to right and replaced right to left.
