    Tang sight hgt ?

    ???
The new marbles tang site has a start hgt of 1.7 to 2.12 inches from base to center of hole.
Now, if I put that on my rifle, looking at my rear sight and lining it up with the front, and the tang, the tang is a lot higher than the rear sight. Won't the tang sight now be shooting way, way high at 100 yds ?
Can anyone give me some center to peep hole measurements of the back of receiver of their guns, so I have some sort of idea where I should start with regards to the peep start height ? I don't mind shooting paper, however it is only 0 outside and I would like to start with it on paper.
The 99 is a 300 savage, 24 inch barrel,150 grn rem factory core locts, I normally have this rifle sighted in for 100 yds, but won't mind sighting it in for 200.
Any help in this is appreciated.

I measured from the bottom of the base to the peep hole on an old vintage Marbles tang sight I've got on my desk and it measured 1.500 on my calipers.

    Thanks,
I would also like the measurement with one installed, from the top of the receiver, lets say by the rear scope mounting holes, to center height of the peep.
Might have to have a straight edge on top of the receiver, like a 1 ft ruler ?
    Anymore ?

    Anymore "replies".
    Thanks for yours.
It was 3.7 inches up from the top of the receiver, to the center of the peep, at the back scope mounting holes ?
What may I ask are you shooting, and at what yardage is it sighted in for?
I find that measurement, in my head, would be about 2 ft high at 100 yds ?
I have shot open sights before, still do, and if you raise the rear sight , you must bring the muzzle up to aline the front sight, thus moving point of impact up.
I believe what you say with the 3.7 inches, but it doesn't make sense in my mind, that the rear site would be that high ? The factory rear site is no where close to that high, yet shoots groups at 100 yds ? Any higher rear base would bring the point of impact up.
What am I not understanding here ? Help .

None and none. I just thought you wanted a distance from the rear scope hole to the center of the peep so I took a Marbles tang sight out of the pile and threw it on an EG in 243 and measured. I don't have alot of guns with both scope holes and tang holes. Most of my Savages were made in 1896 and my shooters are all post 1960 tang safeties I use for hunting.

You do have a factory rear sight on your gun correct? I do notice that when I put a tang sight on I have to really raise it up to get it over the rear sight. Have you ever thought about putting a slot blank in the rear sight dovetail which in turn would bring your poi down? Or think about dropping your front sight to a different number to swap it for a lower one? What number is stamped on your front sight, a 28 or a 34?

    Re: Tang sight hgt ?

Yes, I have rear sights on my rifles.
What I am saying is the rear peep holes seem to be 1 to 1.5 inches higher than any factory rear sight.
So, one would think you would be shooting way higher than the factory sights.
So, how does a tang sight make the rifle shoot on paper at 100 yds, and not be 2 feet high ?
That is why I asked for a height measurement off the receiver "by the rear scope base hole" to the center of the peep. I have several peep design options on the innernet, but I would like to have some idea of where my peep height should be, before I spend any coin ?

I haven't heard of one person saying their new Marblers tang sight won't adjust to what they want to shoot. Never heard anyone with a new Marbles say it shot to high either.

    Re: Tang sight hgt ?

    Thank you,
To me it just doesn't seem logical that the tang would site in at 100 yds, being that high as it is .
I have been planning on purchaseing one , just wanted a little info.
    Thanks again.

    Re: Tang sight hgt ?

If it comes down to it and it does shoot a bit high I'd try different heights on the front sight to bring it down.
