    First build started today.

Well after getting all the new parts for the my build today I finally got started. I am building a 6.5 284 Norma for a friend on his 110 flat back long action. I had to wait for the action and barrel nut wrenches to get here. Was a little work getting it to break loose but once it started it was really easy. I took the bold all apart and cleaned the parts on my sonic cleaner. I had to soak the action in a cleaner bath because it was to long for my cleaner. They cleaned up awesome! So tomorrow I am going to spray the action and black bolt parts with flat black dura coat.

We are adding a Shilen select match stainless barrel 1/8 twist with a heavy sporter contour, Bell & Carlson checkered Medelist stock in tan with black web, rifle basics trigger, EGW 20 moa base, Burris Extreme Tactical 30mm rings, all topped off with a Vortex Viper PST 6.5x20x50.

I cant wait for this to be finished and see how this turns out! I will keep you posted.

Will your barrel fit the channel in the stock without thinning out the sides too much?

Sounds like a neat build. The only caution would be to string out your shots as this caliber is a warmer upper for sure.I would also be careful how much paint you put on the bolt body.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!

Well today I got the action all painted up along with the bolt handle. I got the stock all fit for the new barrel. Well almost still hittIing a bit but just a touch of clean up in the morning. No paint on the bolt body.... just the handle. I also got the new trigger all installed and adjusted!. She is starting to look nice. Im not sure what I am going to do with the stainless barrel tho. It stands out a bit....

I am not sure how to post pics yet.... Once its all done I will get some pics uploaded....

This was a great way to spend a cold windy and snowy day!

Well I got it all together a couple of days ago. I am still waiting on the bases and rings to get here. Was wondering if anyone knows how many foot pounds of torque to put on the barrel nut? It did take some work to get the barrel to fit down into the stock but it looks great. Was glad the new parts arent here yet. I have been sick in bed for three days now and new parts would have just killed me! :-) I will TRY and get pics up... I have never used photobucket so no clue if I can or not.

On the barrel nut, I use the kentucky method. Contact plus 1/8 turn. If everything is square and level, that should be fine.

I think the factory torque is around 1.5 zillion ft/lbs. I feel like 35-45 is enough

I have heard as low as 25 ft pounds with antisieze. Click on these Savage building links. I would bet utube would have something too.

For posting photos, first get the free app Irfanview, then resize your megabyte photos to 15 to 20%, that will get them dowm to 70-150 kilobyte size.

Then open a photobucket account and upload them to your photobucket account. Them at the bottom of every photo there is a drop down menu, click on imag< it will chow copied,

then insert into your message here.
