Have any of you Model 10 .223 owners checked your chambers with a 223/5.56 gage? I'm real curious to know if the Model 10's (precision carbine, etc.) are 223 or 5.56 dimensionally speaking. Thanks.. Ron

Somewhere in-between.. Like a Wylde? That would say that those who say "the manufacture is CYA for both chambers" are correct.. Ron

Tighter than wylde , thats a wylde , not savages concoction. I spent hours looking and just found it , page 190 the High power Shooting Primer.quote Carl b Hildebrandt ,the senior product engineer at savage ,designed the 223 chamber by combining the smaller neck dia. Of the comm. 223 chamber with the shallow throat angle of the military 5.56 mm chamber to create a barrel that will handle the long bullets used by target shooters... End quote .
Its good reading ,get the book it tells of loads ,etc.

I didnt say that but friends of mine shoot 55 gr military nato ammo all the time .
DO NOT try tracers ,they areNOT safe in that chamber, just ask my friend!
Savage has a tighter neck ,cheap steel cased or foreign ammo may get you into trouble.
It is a tighter neck ,which INCREASES pressure.

I'm well aware of the differences and have actually fired quite a bit of 5.56mm in .223 chambers. I'm just curious regarding the Savage chambers. Shooting tracers, steel cased ammo and the like.. I leave to those that do such things.. 8) Thanks.. Ron
