Just bought my first Axis, but own other Savage rifles. I purchased a 20 Practical barrel from Jim Briggs to swap out the 223 barrel. WOW, if it ain't one thing it's another with this gun. I would like to convert it to a single shot in a bench rest stock. Would greatly appreciate your comments.

Hey, fat chance that will happen, I'm not that type of a craftsman. Nor do I have the equipment. I can change the barrel....but make a stock!
stiffening the fore-end is probably what 30 06 means--wanna make sure you have a free-float barrel. Trigger mod too. Both can be done very easily and cheaply--details are available here.
Ron Smith said he wanted a benchrest stock, the only way I know to get one is to build it.
There's some good post on here from members that have made there own.
