    recrowned a rimfire today.

i recrowned my newer markII today. i put a 11 degree crown on it. i was happy with it before but wanted to try it out like this. i have one that i had a smith set the barrel back(he said never a savage again!!) and recrown. it shoots great. now when i did this one i was amazed at it. at 35 yards it was putting federal gold medal target ammo in the same holes. i got bored and started shooting the nails i had used to hold the target up!!! with the way it is shooting now i've got my old tree rat rifle almost in match shape. it is piller and glass bedded. the trigger is shimmed(it's a pre accu trigger model)and it has a old bsa 8x32x40mm contender scope on it. it's a treat to shoot and fun to kill tree rats with. i call it the evil eye!! they just can't hide from the scope!!!

I'm curious why your smith had such problems with the barrel, he won't do another Savage again ???

he doesn't like turning them back down to put them back in the action. he is a older gentleman and says he's getting long in the tooth for it. i also think his lathe is old as well. it may have alot of run out he is trying to make up for.

What did you use to recrown? One of the tools from Brownells?

i can't remember where i got my recrowning tool. i know it wasn't midwayusa or brownells. i did have to measure the tightest part of the barrel and get a pilot to fit my rimfire. i believe i got the .213 pilot for mine. that was the tightes spot in the barrel on mine.
