    1st Savage Build

This summer I decided I would go against everything I believe and build a Savage. I've never been a fan of them as I've been a Remington and a Winchester snob. Well, I decided that I wanted to try a 6.5-284 and I didn't want to spend $2500 on a custom just to try a new cartridge. I've always heard good things about Savages so I decided that I would build my own. I ordered a barrel, recoil lug, trigger and bolt knob from SSS and an Ultimate Varmint stock from Choate. Played the waiting game to get parts here. Finally got her all put together and went out and did some shooting today. I have about 25 rounds through her and decided to shoot a group. First shot I was holding right on the bottom of the dot and I corrected to hold in the middle of the dot for the next two. Still ended up with a decent group. One other thing. No, the dime is not covering a "flyer". LOL!!

Let me know what you think....

    That's a good result for a "tenth build" ..........

....... but it's OUTSTANDING for a first build!!!

Thanks!! I'm definitely a believer now. Already contemplating what to build next.

Here it is with the stock that I had cheek weld problems with.

Here it is in it's final configuration.

27" Douglas barrel, trigger, recoil lug and tactical bolt handle all ordered from Sharp Shooters Supply. Choate Ultimate Varmint Stock, EGW 20 MOA Base, Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 scope.
Lapua Brass, 140 gr. Bergers and 51 grns. H4831 and CCI 200 Primers.

Jumpalot, nice build and a good shooter. Most people here were Remington lovers at onetime or another, myself included.

I really wish I could have gotten the Boyd stock to work. But I just couldn't get any kind of cheek weld with it. I'm thinking about getting on of those Kick-eez pads to put on there now as I still don't get a great cheek weld.
JoeO- Thanks for the pic it looks great. That actually is more of what that stock looks like. As far as the Viper scope, I like it so far. I have a bunch of Leupolds and a Nightforce. Optically it's pretty close to the Leupolds. The turrets have been very consistent and repeatable. For the price, you can't go wrong with these scopes. I'm going to take a look a their binoculars as well.

I have always been poor so I found the Savage rifles before I wasted any money on a Remington.

I think that this is very over looked by folks.

You were wise to address it.

Finally getting out and stretching it's legs a little. This 4 shot group was shot at 510 yds. in a 15 mph wind.
