    Welcome to the site.
Not to sound mean, but you would be better off selling your gun and buying a new rifle with a DBM. It takes a lot of hunting for parts for the older guns.

Well the only other option I can say is if you must have 10 rounds, then find someone to custom fit you gun for a AI magazine. There is a few people doing such things but it ain't cheap.

The only place I know is Numrich, or buy a (Prior to 2010) Savage 111 FCXP3 and get the parts. The problem is still using them old parts (or even new centerfeed parts) no one makes a 10 round magazine, the 9 round SSS magazine is for the newer center feed short actions. Converting it to a AI magazine would require custom bottom metal with a custom latch to use the 10 round magazine. There is a few individuals doing this type of work (CDI come to mind) but it will be well over $200 bucks (If I remember right) to have the work done. (I could be wrong but I think The magazines are around $80)

There is a couple of others, but right off the top of my head, I can't remember who they are. If you do a search, you might just find the others.

If you have the long action .308 it was probably made with a short magazine box, if that is the case it is going to be a LOT of work to get it to function correctly anyway, and the end result may not be a thing of beauty.

    Re: conversions

have not thought about that, i looked at it and its a short box, but a long action. :'( i guess i will ditch this idea and just gut a new 308 detach box mag gun

i dont know where to start with coverting the gun now, thanks for bringing up that point.

I have the same action and have decided to open it up for the H&H length magazine box if I can find one to put in it.

does your ( i guess .308) feed right? mine is stagered and sometimes will not feed the second round, i have to double cycle the bolt for it to feed. i have looked in to converting it to a single stack. what will that intake?

    Re: conversions

Mine was a .308 and never had any problem feeding at all, most recently it was a 6.5-.284 and fed that well also as long as I kept the OAL under 2.8".

I dropped my action off at McRees Precision the other day so Scott could use it to get some measurements for a project he has going on. I don't know if it would be feasible to convert to single stack or not, I haven't seen one of the CF magazines yet but I'm betting it would involve a major undertaking. You could try tweaking the feed lips a little and it should work fine.

    Re: conversions

my 300wsm is a centerfeed rifle with a two round detach box mag. its a new world when looking at it and the 308. the only thing i wish for the wsm is a way to get more rounds in the gun. i guess i will play with the old 308 and leave it as is for now. might buy new gun and take off the barrel and use the old 308 barrel since it has been threaded for a can unless something new comes on the market.
