    308 on long action receiver

I primary shoot 308 but don't have a 308 Savage yet. Consider to buy a new Savage but wonder if I should buy a long action caliber such as 270 and put a 308 barrel on it to take advantage of switch barrel capability and give me a wide range of caliber options in the future. Will there be any feeding/chambering problem or magazine issues to shoot 308 in a Savage long action? How about even shorter cartridges such as 223 or 7.62x39? I know I may need to block the magazine box or even change the box. I have couple 7.62x39 built on small ring Mausers, the longer action length does not bother much, not sure about Savage.

I am shooting a 260 Rem on a long action with no issues. (The 260 is based on the 308 case, you shouldnt see any issues at all.)

Will a long action receiver/stock take a short action magazine box? New center feed magazine. Does the acute trigger worth the money compare to Stevens. I have a Stevens in 223 and love it. Having a short action already is my another reason to consider long action.

Not 100% sure re the magazine but Id bet a long action needs a long action magazine- others will know more.

I'm using a regular 200 stock and action and have had no problems with the 7mm-08 in the longer mag, loads and feeds like normal.

Don't worry about using a short action mag box in the long action as there is no need for it. There is also no need to put a block in the long action mag box. The 308 win will feed fine from the long action. I am running a 308 on a long action staggerfeed. I am also running a 243 on a long action centerfeed. Neither one have any feeding issues at all.

the new Cf mags are long enough to run vlds seated to the lands if thats an issue
I put one in my SF SA for that reason
if my SA Savage wasnt the best rifle in the whole wide world I'd sell it or trade it for a LA
if I buy any more rifles the will be a LA Savage - Stevens
because a LA is allways better at least in my mind for rebarreling to
    ANY caliber
    long or short action

A friend of mine did exactly that. He bought one of the closeout Academy 200s cheap and added a .260 barrel and loaded Berger VLDs seated out. The gun runs flawlessly.

I'm running an old flat back 110FP in .308, got a Choate Tactical LA stock and had it inletted for a Short CDI DBM...so yes you can run shorter 308 mags in a LA with no issues...but now I am limited in using SA cartridges in this stock due to that mag configuration.
