If you are a tinkerer, there are some mods talked about on here to reduce bolt lift.
    here is the most recent,

There are also several gunsmiths talked about that do some relatively cheap work to help smooth it up. I am sure 82boy will be here soon enough to direct and shame you.

    Good luck.

i have several savage rifles and none of them are this bad! especially after usning 40x, 52s, suhls.

i cant see the reason for this but maybe as you said the guru will be in.

    thanks

try loosening the front action screw and see of the bolt lift eases up.

Savages just have heavy bolt lifts, this is common. They are a massed produced gun with an intention to be of lower price, so attention to small details are overlooked to save on cost. There is hope, you can have the action timed and trued, and have a rifle that has a better bolt lift than the rifles you have mentioned.

Send it to SSS and get it T&T'd. You will never want one not done by Fred after that!

He wasnt sending you a pm. He was sending a pm to Acasto since he made a funny smart remark about him shaming you to go to a certain gunsmith. Truth is, for the problem you are complaing about SSS has the best way to fix it with a whole time and true job, a bolt lift kit, or tactical handle. Not really any shaming needed.

If your action is new it will most likely loosen up some as it gets worn in too. The longer bolt handle makes a big difference, and SSS and Stockade both make very nice ones.

    Bob,

A longer bolt handle and a bolt lift kit (.38 case & ball bearing) are simple mods that can be done easily by the shooter. They don't achieve the same results of a T&T job, but they do help a little.
