While I'm on the subject - Anyone know what the average weight is on those laminate Axis stocks?

I'd better beat feet to the nearest gun shop, run inside & kneel before the owner & say "bless me gunsmith for I have sinned".

I can already see the penance I might have to do....

"My son, I want you to go to the range & fire off 10 - 168gr rounds & 25 - 180gr rounds at 250yds with an Axis. It must be without modifications....."

also put in a Rifle Basix trigger - made a HUGE difference.

I went with AccuTriggers in all of mine. Is that a no modification swap out?

The Rifle Basix is so darned easy and the directions were so good it was essentially a drop in and then adjust to your tastes. The only thing I've done to the trigger assy is put in a very thin washer to eliminate any slop in the housing. Very straightforward and it makes a hell of a difference. Now I don't have time for a nap waiting for the trigger to break.

Can Devcon be used in place of JB Weld or Ace brand in the forend? Or is there a better brand to use?

Any 2 part epoxy works.
Make sure you scratch up the inside of the fore end. Epoxy likes to stick to rough stuff. It hates smooth plastic.

Don't overfill the forend, either. You'll be grinding it out so the barrel fit into the stock.

i took a hot screw driver and scratch up the inside of the fore end and also poked holes through the center suport so the epoxy could flow through and level and also make a stronger bond

It's so cold up there you have to heat up your screwdrivers?

I used the tang end of a file. I gouges up the plastic real well.

And I don't heat my files up.
Maybe a pair of pliers once in a while. But never my screwdrivers....

This will be my first attempt at modifying a stock. I'm nervous about screwing something up. Mainly getting epoxy where it shouldn't be. Can the Devcon thats used to reinforce the grip be used in place of JB Weld or Ace brand? And since the Devcon is in the syringe is it easier to use than mixing and scooping the JB weld.

as long as it still quick set and not 60 sec epoxy like most in that type of tube the 60 sec cures rubbery

I used the syringe type epoxy a time or two. It works fine just a bit more money.
I think they give 2 tips to use. After that the syringe thingie is pretty much done if you have any leftover.

PS - there isn't anything you can screw up with epoxy that a file, grinder or sandpaper won't take care of.

This is awesome information I was kind of at a stand still as to whether I should get the Axis SR or the Hog Hunter I am on a very limited budget, so this has pushed me closer towards the Axis.

No, but it did remind me of a friend I had many years ago that did run thru a doorway with his plastic toy rifle sideways.

I still laugh to this day when I think of the look on his face with 1/2 a rifle in each hand.

I think I have a fix in mind. I think the pistol grip would look good but the rifle would not function or be practical for me then. Stay tuned because my imagination is running wild...

I thought this might morph into "how many easy ways can you think of to break an axis stock." : ) I did get a chuckle out of your comment, brings back memories of cartoons/comedies I watched as a kid.
