    savage target action

not sure if this is where this should go but I don't know where else to put it so here goes...

Looking to build my next rifle off a savage target action but I don't really understand how this works...

when i pull them up on savages website they don't really have specific calibers.. it just says standard and the phone number in their contacts section is a non working number, at least from my phone. does this mean I can use it for any round I want? this doesn't really seem viable.

I want a round with low recoil that I can still dork around with out to 1,000 so i was thinking 6.5 creedmore.

please let me know what all is involved in getting the action ready to rock. I can handle the barrel, stock, and scope.

    Thanks!

The actions are bolt head specific, as is to 223 family and 308, 243 30/06 family, as far as buying one contact a savage dealer, or maybe someone on this sight might have one for sale

Sorry I think they are all short action so that would eliminate the 30/06 family of cartridges

Contact NSS here. he routinely carries them.

All are right hand, single feed, large shank.

I didn't think 6.5 creedmoor was 30-06 family.. Is there another 6.5 style caliber that would work? I wanted right hand and single shot.

    jordan:
The bolt face for the 6.5 Creedmoor is the same as the .30-06 "family" (.473). They do make some actions that are right bolt, left port. I have one I use with a .223.

Cool so let me make sure that I understand.. I can get a savage target action with a right bolt left port, with a. 473 inch bolt face which is a 30-06 family...? Sorry I can be a little dense.

The 6.5 Creedmoor will work just fine in a Savage Target action, the .473 bolt face is just that - the bolt face is by cartridge family as was mentioned above 308, 243, 22-250, etc. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a close cousin to the 22-250 as far a the case goes.
And yes you can have right bolt/left port, right bolt/right port or evern right bolt/ dual port (left load/right eject).

NSS also had repeater actions from LRP's,not sure if he still does. They're blue instead of stainless w/target accutrigger.
