Sine you kept pointing out that the first shot went its own way. Were you firing from the magazine or loading them in one at a time? If from a Mag was the magazine full every time? If so what about loading the mag with 1 less than it was suppose to have and seeing if somehow that was effecting the groups. Possibly the angle was wrong, shaving some off of the bullet every time you loaded one from the mag with too much spring pressure? Im disappointed in the results, but thank you for the honest and very helpful review.

Hi. I just sighted in my Model 25 in .17 HH. It will probably become a favorite among all my Savage rifles. Shooting the factory ammo, it put 6 bullets (2 mags of 3) into the same tiny hole at 50 yds. I use a bipod and a rear bad, from a homemade shooting bench.
I KNOW 50 yds isn't isn't a real test, it just was where the bench was that day. NO recoil, but ear protection is still needed. Everyone who shot it, just fell in love with it. Having 4 Axis rifles, I have to say the Model 25's plastic stock is MUCH more robust. I reinforced all the Axis stocks, don't need to on this model.
During reloading with a headspace guage, it appears the factory ammo is .025" short of the shoulder. I know this cartridge headspaces on the rim, but by neck sizing the brass, I can get .001"- .002" from the shoulder and still the bolt closes easily.

It appears Mr. Baker got a lemon a lemon to test. Let's hope more Savage owners have much better luck with their rifles. I'm considering a 17 Hornet to play with and will look closely at a wood stock model.
