I have a 28" Match .243 varmint 1/8 Criterion. Great barrel. However, if you are looking to shoot the 115's you might want to consider a 1/7 or 1/7.5 twist.
Here is a great thread on Criterion: http://www.savageshooters.com/showth...terion-prefits
Ya done burned out one 243...glutton for punishment much?
Cheater cartridge.
DTACs at 3100+ is 5ish mils to 1,000! That'a nearly half what the 260 is doing.
Now that I can swap em out my self... Barrel life be ****ed!
I have a Shilen 1:8 26" tube. Haven't really gotten to stretch its legs yet but out to 375yds it's kinda scary.
rrflyer - I dont think you will get there with a 1:8 in a 243 with the Dtacs.
You might get there in a 243AI. I have one 243AI with an 8 twist rock barrel and it will shoot the Dtacs fine at 3150MV.
To be safe get a 7.5 twist for the Dtacs as I have buddies that can not get there with 8 twist 243AI's.
Have a Kregier 7.5 throated for the Dtacs and it runs nice.
105 Amax is no prob and will run fine in a 1:9
Note: I just ordered a prefit 26" CBI 243AI 1:8 match throated barrel from Jim day before yesterday. It will be at least 12 weeks before I know.....
Going to try and run the 115's hard in the 26" barrel and hope to equal the rock barrels performance.
If not I will shoot the 105 AMAX and not loose much sleep.
Talking to Jim as to if Criterion was going to offer a 7 or a 7.5 twist 6MM barrel....it did not sound like anytime soon.

I have a 28" bull 1:8 twist .243 CBI barrel that shoots 105gn berger hybrids very well, I am shooting 4" clay birds at 600yds and hit the 12" steel at 1000yds very consistently.
You do realize you have to buy 500 DTACs at a time (unless you can find someone to split it with). That would be a lot of bullets to be stuck with if they don't shoot!
"An armed society is a polite society"
"...shall not be infringed" What's the confusion?
I usually buy 1000 at a time! and if they dont shoot they'll usually resell fairly quickly.
I called rock creek last week and they said their doing a run of 6mm 1/7.5 twist cut rifled barrels and could have me a prefit one for a little over 400 bucks in a few weeks.
Unfortunately I think I'm gonna hold off for a bit. I'm loaded to the gills on 260 stuff and and gonna shoot out what I have. Probably next spring I'll make the switch.
