Plastic and metal trigger guard - how close in size?

I just received my Boyds stock for my Stevens 308. The plastic trigger guard does not fit. I plan on getting a metal guard and thought maybe I should wait before opening up that inlet area. Does anyone know how close in size the metal and the plastic guards are? Thanks.

It depends on which Savage model. But I would not open up the Boyds stock until you receive the metal trigger guard since it may be slightly narrower than the more recent plastic version.

yeah, +1 on that. the plastic ones expand and become distorted after torqueing the action screws also. i would wait until you get the metal guard also.

I would wait on the metal guard
I have ground down a plastic one to fit in the past because I was in the same situaton you are now
I do not think I would grind on the stock
The inlet on the boyds stock fits the metal guard very well

OK, that makes sense. I will wait. Midway has them on backorder right now, so maybe I'll just grind the plastic to fit if the metal guards don't come in soon. Thanks!

SSS and Brownells usually stock the Savage metal TG's.
