New Bushnell Elite - Opinions and reviews? Good choice for $205 NIB?

Since Bushnell is offering a $75 rebate. I am looking for some new scopes for my Savage 111 long action. I found one with the new HD Rainguard. I do not belive it is a 3200. The price is $279.99 for it. I figure with $75 and free shipping. It sounds like a good deal. I have a $375 credit at the dealer, so it looks like a good deal.

Opinions on these scopes? First hand experiences? I plan on buying a "Firefly" one and a non-Firefly one. Opinions on each?

The dealer is calling it a Bushnell Elite, but there are also 3200, 4200, tactical, etc. Where does this one fall in terms of quality? It says it has a 95% light transmission.

My dealer also states that the mounting length is 6" and that seems to be what is necessary to mount the scopes without special mounts or rings. Sound right?

    Thanks for your time.

Ask for the exact model number then go to the Bushnell website and input it.

For example, the 3-9x40 Elite with Firefly reticle is model # E3946.

I've had several Elite 4200's and have an E3946 on the way right now.

Hard to find a tougher, more clear scope at twice the price.

You may be able to fit the scope without an extended base but you'll have zero positioning latitude.

What do you mean by "zero positioning latitude"?

He means the rings will be set so far apart that there will be no room to slide the scope fore or aft to accommodate eye relief, bolt handle clearance, etc. An extended base allows you to place the rings closer together to handle shorter scope tubes. A rail allows that, plus more fore-aft movement of the rings themselves.

    Thank you, that makes sense.

Are the plain 3x9-40 "Elite" models made in China or Japan? Which ones have the side focus?

    Japan.

The Chinese ones, now renamed "Legend Ultra HD" have the side focus.

The Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 scopes have the following part numbers.

E3940, matte, duplex reticle (called the Multi-X by Bushnell)

E3940G, gloss version of above scope.

E3940S, silver version of above scope.

    E3940B, matte, DOA 600 reticle.

    E3946, matte, Firefly reticle.

These are the only present Elite 3-9x40 scopes.

The entire Elite line is Japanese made AFAIK.

Great scope for the money. Mine is a 3-9x40 elite 4200 that I think got discontinued last year. Really clear with good adjustments and holds zero on my 7mm rm. Sounds like you'll have enough store credit to upgrade your rings and mounts if you want too!

Anyone know if their rebate is for cash or is it towards other bushnell products?

The Rebate is cash. They'll send you a check. Check the Bushnell website, they're running a few promotions now.
