    Hornady 300 Savage ammo in a 1926 99 takdown?

I just laid the money down for a sweet all original 1926 99 300 takedown with a Weaver 330 scope on Stith mounts and I was wondering if it'd be okay to run the Hornady Superformance ammo through it? The gun is in very good condition, very little wear other than on the wood, which ain't all that bad. I just want to run a couple of boxes of factory through it to establish a base line before I start working up my own loads, but I don't want to assume that a 86 year old 99 can handle modern ammo.

    Thanks for any insight.

Good question. Maybe you should contact Hornady? What load are looking at using?

Hornady replied "the Savage 99 is a very strong action and will handle the new rounds well", Referencing their 300 Savage 150 gr SST® Superformance® ammo, so that's what I'll be using as a base line.
As far as what load I'll be trying? Probably start with 36 grs H4096 in Hornady brass using Sierra 150 gr. flat base bullets.

It's exactly like H4895, except for the typo.

I have shot this round with good'nuff results. I know 50 yards is not that impressive, but that the only distance ive shot so far... soon enough, i will shoot it at 100yrds.
