Keep seening Savage rifles advertised as shooting 5.56??

Been looking online for a Savage in .223. Several websites list a Savage rifle as shooting .223/5.56.

Are Savage Rifles now chambered to shoot 5.56??? Which ones???

223 remington vs 5.56mm You will hear lots of debate. I am not satisfied there is any difference. You will have lots of folks talk about higher pressures, different brass, blah, blah, blah.....

All I know is the brass from either fits in the others chamber. If you are reloading, as always work up your loads.

Both shoot in just about any .223 gun.

Because of crimping and sealer the 556 has higher pressures. Also the chambers for 556 are dimmensionaly a little more open to satisfy the broad tolerence on the brass. More to it thanthat but if you have ever brought 556 brass back to 223 standards you know what I speak of.

It depends on the type freebore or throat your rifle has, I have a Stevens 200 and a AR15 and both have long throats and 1 in 9 twist BUT you might run into an older Savage or other brand with a shorter throat so be careful.

Below is the best article on pressures on the .223 vs the 5.56 I have found to date.

    SAVAGE FAQ

    Can I shoot the 5.56x45 NATO ammunition in my 223 Rem? 7.62 X 51 in 308 WIN?

Savage Arms does not recommend the use of any military surplus ammunition. As stated in the owner's manuals, you should only shoot the caliber that is stamped on the side of your barrel.

PLEASE don't turn this into a 6 page debate. If you want a definate answer call 1-800-370-0708 and ask the tech people at the Savage factory.

Right, BTW I think the OP was asking if Savage Arms is marketing some of their rifles as 5.56mm? Not, if the end user could use 5.56mm in their gun. Ridge Runner if this is the case check Savage Arms' website. If you can not find your answer there, call them.

I think you are seeing places like Bud's which incorrectly uses a 223/5.56 nomenclature. Savage doesn't list 5.56 for their guns
