    .375 Ruger Questions

Is a stagger-feed or center-feed preferable or is either going to work well?

Anybody got any info on various barrel lengths? I'd like a 19 or 20 inch barrel but I don't want to loss a lot of velocity or get a big increase in muzzle blast.

What's a good total weight to shoot for? I've shot a Ruger #1 .375 H&H a little and think I'd like a little less recoil. Is an extra pound or two going to cut recoil enough to tell?

Will Leupold standard rings and bases hold up well on a .375?

Ruger offers two barrel lengths in that cartridge, 20" and 25" so a 19" or 20" on a Savage should be fine. I would tend to think that the inline feed would be a "more" reliable feature and adding 1 Lb of weight in the gun will reduce felt recoil noticeably. I would have no worries with the Leupold standard base and rings (although I like Talleys better).

Go for the 20" barrel. I have a Ruger Hawkey Alaskan and it's my favorite rifle because of the short barrel. Muzzle blast is less than anything with a muzzle brake, and IMO less than a short barrel 308 Win. Recoil isn't bad at all in my gun, but it does weigh nearly 9.5#. And I wouldn't worry about the rings. I had a set of standard Leupolds on a 458 Win Mag and the scope gave out before the rings did. :D

The barrel length on the Ruger Alaskan is 20" but the African model is actually 23" not 25".

Yep, you are correct. My M70 has a 25" in 375 H&H, I got them mixed up.
