    What other barrel

Is there another brand of rifle barrel that can be adapted reasonably easy to fit a Savage . Savage barrels are hard to come by over here in OZ .

Here in the States theres Pac-Nor, McGowan, Shilen, Lothar Walther, Brux, etc. I don't know if they have an export license but they all have a web site, you could contact them to find out if the will export. HTH.

That will depend on whether there's enough metal over the chamber to remove the original threads and recut for the Savage. I've never tried using a Winchester or Sako barrel.

I'm not sure what the problem is and I don't know what barrels are available in Australia. Any decent gunsmith or machinist anywhere on the planet should be able to turn a large enough barrel down to the proper threads:

(.....Until recently all the Savage rifle barrels were threaded with 60 degree V-Threads at 20TPI with a thread diameter of 1.05”.

    Am I missing something?

I don't know about sako but winchester threads are 1 inch already to small
remington are 1-.62 thread size so for both of them you will have to cut off the threads and rethread to savage or stevens then also rechamber.
To make everything simple send the money to someone here in the states let them buy you what you want and mail it to you no law against that.
