Hello and and trigger spring question...

    Hi all,

New poster here, just got my hands on my first Savage (11 in .308). Looks like a great forum!

Mine has the older 'pre-accutrigger' tigger and I want to replace the spring as part of the pull-lightening process. I see most sources call for 0.040" spring steel wire but I can only find 0.047" where I am.

Have any of you use wire thats a bit thicker that 0.040? I mean if factory is 0.060 then 0.047 should be an improvement?

    Thanks !

    Hello kayaker
Welcome, yes I think you would be fine with .047 wire. you can go the auto parts store (or your shop if your a hot rodder) and start measuring throttle return springs. Many have a long end thats plenty long. Clip that off and bend it as needed. Also cheaper than buying alot more wire than you'll ever need. There was a fellow giving the wire away if you sent him a self addressed stamped envelope. A search should find that for you. This came up just a few days ago so all info should be just a few pages back... good luck, Bill

PS.looks like Dan has you hooked up....

    Thanks,
Dan's link isn't working but no worries, I'll look for that.

    Hi again,

The 0.047" wire was fine. I did a simple replacement of the spring and adjusted the tension, nothing else. I erred well on the sde of caution! Its still got some creep but is much better than factory, will measure pull weight soon.

The best thing I have found is the wire from a fishing spinner bait or a buzz bait. It has been .40. It really works great for me. Just measure and duplicate the original .60 factory spring.
    You gonna like it.

There is a gentleman who posts here ( 243Shooter ) who has a supply of .041 wire that he dispenses to members free of charge. I guess he is just on a crusade to rid the world of bad triggers. I sent him a SASE and he sent me enough wire for about 8 triggers. Should we ever meet, I owe him a couple of beers.
