savage 110c j series 22-250 questions

hello everyone!!! i have a savage 110c j series 22-250 rifle with detachable clip and half the time shooting it the bullet does not fire.. the primer is lightly dented but does not fire... my guess is the bolt/firing pin is bad. is there any way to repair/rebuild the bolt and possible cost.. also is there any composite stocks for this rifle? thanks for any help!!!!!

You may want to make sure the headspace is set right as well. The chamber may be so oversized the bullet is getting pushed forward in the chamber and the firing pin can not have a solid strike on the primer.

Loosen the screw (or remove) holding the bolt handle on and trip the firing pin. Measure the amount the pin protrudes from the bolt head. Should be in the .040 range.

Is this a new rifle,or used one? Sometimes crud gets in the fireing pin hole..Befor I tried and thing else,I would try spraying some carb cleaner into the fireing pin hole and flushing out any dirt or grease that may be in there....If it is dirty this will cause a slow fireing pin movement resulting in slow pin movement..I stillmay dent the primer,but with not enough force to make it fire....

Thanks for your advice everyone. It is an old gun and I did try spraying Carb cleaner but still no luck. And I have no idea how to check head space

In the event that you do need to adjust your firing pin travel here is a guide. I use a mitutoyo depth mic put this will work.

sniper9450: Before we all go chasing down a rabbit hole, let's do one thing at a time. Please check your firing pin protrusion and let us know what it is.
