I only use one layer of tape when I reset the headspace on all barrels.... even factory.

the difference between a go and a no-go is .004", so measure the go gauge, then add tape until the go gauge measures .004" longer and you will be fine.
It really depends on the brand of tape. I have used some that needed 1 layer and some that have needed 2 layers.

One piece of Scotch brand tape and GTG...
I couldn't remember if it was one or two layers of scotch brand tape. I'll measure it regardless.
