    Bedding scope bases?

I have seen reference here to bedding scope bases, and I'm not sure I know what "bedding" means in that context.

Is it just applying epoxy under the bases before they are screwed down, to have solid contact everywhere?

Or are we talking about installing rings, and either a scope or equivalent tube, onto the bases; and then using that as a jig to align the bases (with epoxy under them) to correct an inaccurately ground flat receiver?

    Or something else?

Bedding bases is applying epoxy before installing the screws and letting them set. Seen it done with some heavy hitters.

Aligning rings is using a mandrel with abrasive and lapping them into perfect aligment. Never done it. I prefer Burris Signature rings with inserts.

Benchrest shooters are jsut crazy for that last .000001.

Yeah, I'm not a benchrest guy, just trying to keep a scope on top of a .375.

    Thanks!
