    Hodgdon H380

I recently put a 7mm-08 together & decided to give H380 a try. It's a little different than what I'm used to (ie stick) but as long as it pushes the bullet out the barrel with enough ooommphh to make it to the target, I'll be happy.

Any of y'all using H380 for the 7-08? What kind of charges are you using & how's your results?

After today, the first time I'm using it, I'm thinking of going back to 4064 & 4895. Bullets I'm using for now are Hornady 139gr SST & Sierra 150gr HPBT's.

Anyone got anything on this powder?

Hornaday doesn't show it in there manual as a powder so I don't know how good it well be.

It performs best with medium burn powders. It looks like 380 is in-between varger and 4350 so it's on the upperhand of the med. burns.

I found out today my new 7-08 likes 4895 over 4064. It wasn't too happy with the H380 I used either but then I hadn't put together a full batch for OCD/OCW. I ran out of brass. Worse case, I'll find somewhere to use it. I'll just have to build a rifle for the powder!...

    G'night y'all

I shoot around A LOT of guys that use the 7-08 (me included) and I only know one guy using H380.

One of my buddies has TWELVE 7mm-08s. He had 13 but reluctantly sold one to a buddy. He has been shooting this caliber since the day it came out and shoots over 5,000 rounds a year of just this cartridge in practice and competition. When he says something... I listen. He swears by 4064 in the heavy bullets (168gr Matchking generally), and Varget for bullets less than that.

Ya know Trent, I had the best results with 4064 & 4895. I fired 3 groups of 3 bullets each just to see what H380 was like & I wasn't too impressed. As we all know when it comes to reloading - go with what you know- and I know that I'm not real enthusuastic about 380.

Like I said earlier, I'll have to build another rifle to use the H380 in. I don't want to waste it....

Thanks for your input. Every little bit helps.

And the 380 is very temperature sensitive! I used to use it in my 22-250 but switched over to varget for more consistency.
