    Swivel screw thread pitch?

I have been going crazy with my 260, upgrading everything I can. Last thing I did to it was an atlas bipod. I want to mount it to my Boyds VT stock, Since it had two sling attachment studs I decided to just screw the rail for the bipod on with those. The swivel screws are wood screws and have a very course wood thread on them. They also don't go deep enough to give me a a real secure mount for the rail.

I have two courses of action here:

    1. Get longer thread wood screws that will bite a little better into the wood.
    2. Drill the holes out and install machine screws with washers and nuts on the inside.

What do you think on this?

I would drill em out and use the nut and washer method, plus I'd run some epoxy in the hole just to firm it up

Countersink the hole under the barrel so the nut and washer will be flush or below the wood a tad, and then cut off the protruding end of the bolt under the barrel. Epoxy if you wish, but not really necessary and makes things permanent (not good if you ever wish to change out your stud).

Edit: Upon rereading, this sounds too much like an order. It's not. It's just a suggestion. FWIW, It's what I did in at least one particular instance. It has worked well for me. Something else might work equally as well for you.
