I think you can put a washer between the BAS and the bolt body and accomplish the same thing. Make sure you have lube at all the mating surface to help with the lift too.
I purchased the SSS bolt lift kit for my Stevens 200 build but it seemed to have made the bolt lift even heavier. Does anyone know if any modification needs to be done to the BAS or any other parts to make the lift kit work as intended? I have heard that you need to shorten the BAS but I can't seem to find the site showing how to do it.

Pretty sure you need to shorten the BAS or use a spacer as mentioned above. Not doing this will definitely increase the amount of force necesarry to lift the bolt.
I didn't shorten my BAS, but did polish its bottom (sandpaper on a flat surface, then a dremel polish head) where it makes contact with the bearing. That helped noticeably.
Buy a sss tactical handle and you will feel the difference.
Does your BAS have the flat head screw driver slot or allen head? If you have the flat head version you will have to cut off the part of the BAS that fits into the cocking sleeve.
