ER Shaw 7x57 Group buy barrel

I installed my 7x57 ER Shaw barrel that I got from the group buy. Worked on a couple loads and am glad to say how happy I am with it. Just shot a 5 shot .333 group.

What twist for what bullet did you go with? I'm thinking about 7x57 with 150/160 gr or so bullets.

It's always nice when you get a shooter.

I believe it's a 9 1/2 twist and I'm shooting 150 grain SMK. Loading Win brass, Wolf large rifle primers, 40 gr of IMR 4064, 150 gr SMK seated @ 3.025 OAL. I'm not showing any signs of pressure as of now. I'll start gradually working my way up and see what it does to accuracy.

Nice shooting! Some of these Shaw barrels seem to do very good. Now if I can get my hands on the 6.5 Creedmoor I have coming my way from the group buy.

Does the throat seem long enough to avoid seating longer bullets down into the body of the case?? I am contemplating an ER Shaw barrel in 7x57 and plan on going the traditional heavy long bullet route.

When I get a little time I'll try try to leave one out long and see. I only have a box of 150's to try with. Was the traditional a round nose bullet?

If you have the time that would be great.

According to Wikipedia... the original bullet was a 173gr round nose. At one time I used a no longer made Sierra 170gr RN in a Ruger77 with good results on deer and a moose. If you haven't seen this site the writer has some interesting opinions; http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Know...Base/7x57.html

The link may not work as I don't know what I'm doing on a Mac

I loaded some cartridges last night and left a bullet out long and pushed it up into the lands and then used a comparator to measure the difference between my normal load that the the manual suggests. my normal load with comparator measured 2.495 the bullet I pushed into the lands measured 2.598. a difference of .103 Hope that helps. My overall length for normal load is 3.025

Thanks for the info. Truthfully I don't know if that makes for a long throat or not. If anyone can educate???

When I retrieve the aforementioned Ruger 77, now residing as a safe queen at a friends, I'll measure that rifles throat length for comparison.
