    I shot my 22.250 in a 1,000 yard F class match

I was playing with my 22.250 (Savage receiver, Choate stock, 26" PacNor supermatch 1:10" twist, SSS LH Tactical bolt handle) and decided to take it out to the monthly F class (1,000 yard) match in Cuyama, CA (You don't know where that is) this morning.

The winds were light (thankfully) but switchy coming from behind us on the line but shifting almost full right and left downrange. The 68 grain Hornady match bullets were being pushed a good 6-8" from a 90 degree shift in the 5 mph wind over that distance.

I shot a 167 in the first relay (out of 200) and a 180 on the second relay. This was on the 10" Ten ring, 20" nine ring, 30" eight ring and 40" seven ring target.

It was a lot of fun but I think that I prefer my 6.5x284 over that distance. Hopefully by the end of February I will have the stock for my 243 (another SSS built Savage) and that will give me another option for the lighter wind days.

I'm retarded. What size group did you shoot and how many rounds? Be patient with me.

My hat is off to you for both the attempt and your results....Amazing!! The reason I say this...A very good friend of mine has an extremely accurate .22-250 that we put to use varmint hunting in Montana. Beyond 500 yards...things got really twitchy because its always windy. We scored only one hit at 700 yards.

Again...Amazing job!! Thanks for sharing. I certainly don't blame you for wanting to go back to your 6.5-284 for 1K shooting.

Fjold, What bullet were you using?

You must have been reading the wind well!

You are not retarded, just a little slow. F class is shot for SCORE, not group.
He stated that the 10 ring is 10" and the possible score is 200, let's do the math:
    20 shots in the 10 ring= 200 pts.

I was shooting the 68 grain Hornady Match BTHP because I had a box that I needed to burn up. I would like to shoot the 80 grain SMKs but the 1:10 twist will probably limit me to the 69 grainers (I might try the 77s to see if they'll stabilize)

The group sizes were nothing to brag about as I did drop a couple of 7s when I missed the wind shift and were probably at 24-30". I can shoot less than 10" most days with my 6.5x284 and have shot a couple of sub 5" groups with it but these little bullets are a lot harder to keep in the X because of the wind.

I have always heard of Fclass but never took the time to figure out the rules. We shoot 500 and 600yds here for group size and closest to bullseye. Fclass sounds fun.

If he shot a perfect score at 1000yrd his groups would be no greater than 1 MOA

With a 180, he was doing some damn fine shooting with a 22-250 at that range and moderate (and unpredictable) winds.

    Good job mate!

I have seen (my) 6mm 107s and 115s drift a long ways due to missed wind call, and I would bet the BC is twice what the 68gr .22s are. I would say you done an awsome job!
